A Disney Princess

Last night, we went to Disney on Ice and Ellington had a blast!  The only character that she really knows is Minnie Mouse because one of her friends has a slight obsession with Minnie.  Still, we knew she would have plenty of fun.  Why?  Well, this little girl loves (and I mean LOVES) music!  She had never heard any of the songs, but she was clapping and bouncing just like everyone else in the arena.

It was a 2 hour show and had me a little worried, but Ellington sat still and stared in awe at the lights and the brightly dressed skaters.  We might have to get seats a little closer to the action next time because she became very fidgety and upset whenever somebody stood up or got in her way.  She really wanted to stand in the aisle and dance to the music by herself, but the aisle consisted of a bunch of stairs so this was not a possibility.

It was also John's first experience with the little girl / Disney princess obsession that one of our little ones is sure to have.  As soon as we walked into the princess filled arena with giddy girlies dressed like their favorite princess begging their parents for sparkly souvenirs, John said "So this is what I'm in for".  I don't ever remember being obsessed with Disney princesses (I was more of a He-Man & GI Joe kind of girl), but John will have to get used to all of this girlie stuff with 2 little girls of his own. :)  Hopefully, one of our girls will be a tom-boy like I was to balance out the household.  Plus - I love little girlie things, but I don't think I could stand that much pink in my house.

Dance Dance Dance

Ellington loves to dance and every time she hears a hint of music she immediately starts bouncing up and down.  Yesterday, John had his headphones out and decided to try them out on little E.

She is hilarious.  She only has one move right now, but she is a quick learner and I can see her breakdancing in no time. :) Love that girl!

A FREE Concert & the State Fair

This is going to be a fun weekend in Durham!  You will be able to gain entry into the NC State Fair for FREE tomorrow (Thursday) and you can attend a FREE concert on Friday!

We have already been to the State Fair this year (see here), so we will probably skip out on the fair fun tomorrow.  If you want to brave the crowds tomorrow, just bring in 4 Food Lion brand canned goods per person to get in for FREE.  Also, please do not pay for parking!  You can park for FREE too.

On Friday, we are going to try to go to 3rd Friday Concert series put on by Music Explorium.  It looks like tons of fun... with drummers, a ukulele band, a New Orleans style parade, and a drum circle for all the kiddos.

Where:  Durham Centre Plaza (Roof of Parking Deck) 300 W. Morgan Street

What to Expect:  Music Explorium will host local, community music groups performing a variety of music styles on drums, ukuleles, accordions, horns, and voice.  The event will end with an all-ages participatory drum circle.

Hairspray!

The girls in the family (minus Ellington) went to go see Hairspray the musical last night. It was really good, but this post is not a theater review. No, I am not going to go on and talk about how much fun it was to sing along with the cast or how great it was to have a night out. I am here to talk about how many different theater opportunities there are in Charlotte.

Just flipping through the program, I notice about six different places you could go and see a good play / musical. From Broadway to community theater, there is now no excuse to sit at home in front of the television on a Saturday night. We went to CPCC to see Hairspray and it did not disappoint. So get dressed up, grab a bite to eat, and take yourself to the theater!

'You Know that I Could Use Somebody'

Thanks to a very generous friend (Thank you Sean!), John & I were able to go to the Kings of Leon concert on Thursday night. I can't remember the last time that I went to a concert that big... it was probably close to 3 years ago. The concert and the seats were amazing. Please enjoy the very unprofessional video I took of their hit song 'Use Somebody' & just ignore John's singing in the background.
