One Year Ago

This year has flown by so fast. Sometimes, I still feel like John and I are dating and I should be on my way back home soon. We have kept this anniversary simple and quiet because we have a little something planned early next year that I will blog about later.

The first year anniversary gift is traditionally paper, so I framed my favorite part of our wedding ceremony for John:

Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens. A good marriage must be created and it is created in the following ways;
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say ‘I love you’ at least once a day.
It is at no time taking each other for granted.
It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing life.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is doing things for each other not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.
It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude.
It is not looking for perfection in each other.
It is cultivation flexibility, patience, understanding, and a sense of humor.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It is finding room for things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is establishing a relationship in which dependence is equal, dependence is mutual, and obligation is reciprocal.
It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.

I try every day to be the right partner. John is not only the love of my life, but my best friend. I am so lucky to have such a great person in my life.
